Here is what this weeks' Smith Spokesman says..... and EVERYONE brought theirs home - so don't let them fool you!  (It also has marked on it what homework they turned in.)

Literature:  Reading Street, Unit 1, Week 1 - Frindle,  By Andrew Clements
Nick really just likes to liven things up at school -- and he's always had plenty of great ideas. Who says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a frindle? Things begin innocently enough as Nick gets his friends to use the new word. Soon the school is in an uproar, and Nick has become a local hero. His teacher wants Nick to put an end to all this nonsense, but the new word is spreading across the country...
Literature Circle:  Bridge to Terabithia, by Katherine Paterson
In the opening chapter of Bridge to Terabithia, several important themes are introduced, themes which will be developed more fully throughout the course of the novel. The main character, Jesse Aarons, is an eleven-year-old boy living on a country farm with his parents and four sisters, and he has nurtured one dream all summer long...

Science: Students have been recruited to become Exploranauts and venture into outer space. They receive their ultimate mission—to locate and transform an exoplanet, changing its features to make it habitable.
