January Genre Project Instructions

  Award Winning Books: Scrapbook Page Book Report
January 31st we will present our wonderful, creative, and colorful scrapbook page book reports!  Carefully look over the rubric below so you know what is required.  
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Maximum 10 points for folded brochure with 2 character descriptions including character name, basic description, and MOTIVATION in the story.

Maximum points for neat, colorful illustration(s) of a character, event, or something symbolic.
Neatness

Overall neatness of text, graphics and poster.  Poster should be creative, colorful, little white space, and  free of stray marks, tears, etc.
ON TIME
+5
+5 points if ON TIME.   If late, no points will be awarded, and 1 point will be deducted for each day late.

35-44 – Meets
30-34 – Close to Meeting

End of Quarter 2 - half way through 5th grade!

No school Monday - teacher planning day & report cards

3-Day Weekend and students should finish  reading their Monthly Genre:  Award Winners!  Students should be completely finished with their novel upon returning on Tuesday.  The project is a scrapbook page completed primarily in class - students should have started the assignment this week.  They will have some time on Tuesday and some time on Wednesday to complete - criteria on other side.  Summary of novel typed into Google classroom.

Writing Personal Narratives:  These were due today.

Math:  Unit 6 = Fractions, Decimals & Percents.  This week we focused on adding and subtracting fractions and what to do when their denominators are different!?
Social Studies:  Native American Project - Speeches were awe inspiring!  All scores went home the day they gave the speech.  Speech writing scores in their Google docs

Writing Personal Narratives: This weeks lesson  ‘strong endings’.  Revising and editing next.

Math:  Unit 6 = Fractions, Decimals & Percents.  This week we focused on adding and subtracting fractions and
what to do when their denominators are different!?

Social Studies:  Native American Project - Speeches should be complete.  Students were taught how to insert photos and animate their slideshow.  Super cool - have them show you!
If either speech or slideshow  are not complete they are now HOMEWORK.

Science:  Variables Unit.  We made ‘swingers’ and began using the scientific method.

Brooke and Caiden took it upon themselves to apply for Fanni Creek Clinic’s grant for additional chrome books for our class. Well, ask and you shall receive!  Low and behold a check arrived in the mail for $2000!  Thank you gals - you rock!
